ETH Zurich names Mathieu Luisier full professor

ETH Zurich has appointed Mathieu Luisier Full Professor of Computational Nanoelectronics at the university's Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering . He has been Associate Professor in the department since 2016.

Luisier graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from ETH Zurich in 2003 and received his Ph.D. from the same university in 2007. After staying on for a one-year post-doc, he joined the Network for Computational Nanotechnology at Purdue University, USA, as a research assistant professor in 2008. In 2011, he returned to ETH Zurich as Assistant Professor.

His research interests include computer-​​assisted nanoelectronics, quantum transport, device physics and high-​​performance computing. He developed a software program called OMEN, which is now regarded as the state-​​of-​the-art quantum transport simulator for nanotransistors and other nanostructures. 

Luisier received a Starting Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) in 2013 and won the ACM Gordon Bell Prize for high performance computing in 2019. In 2020, he was one of the winners of the "Golden Owl," an honor awarded by the VSETH, ETH Zurich’s students association, to lecturers who have provided exceptional teaching.
