Past events

The European Researchers' Night, funded under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions (MSCA), is a Europe-wide public event that brings researchers closer to the public. The Night provides researchers the opportunity to showcase the diversity of science and its impact on citizens’ daily lives, and to stimulate interest in research careers – especially among young people. The events highlight how researchers contribute to our society by displaying their work in an interactive and engaging forum.

The MARVEL Junior Seminar series is continuing in videoconferencing mode (and we'll hopefully be back soon with pizza and cakes!). We are therefore pleased to propose the 38th MARVEL Junior Seminar: Tobias Esswein (ETHZ) and Haiyuan Wang (EPFL) will present their research. The seminar will be chaired by Stefano Falletta.

The 20th NCCR MARVEL Distinguished Lecture is given by Prof. Stefano Baroni, Professor of theoretical condensed-matter physics at the Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA) in Trieste, Italy, on "Gauge invariance of heat and charge transport coefficients".

We are therefore pleased to propose the 37th MARVEL Junior Seminar: Loris Ercole (EPFL) and Gabriela Borin Barin (Empa) will present their research. The seminar will be chaired by Michele Kotiuga.

We are therefore pleased to propose the 36th MARVEL Junior Seminar: Seyed Mohamad Moosavi (EPFL) and Behnam Parsaeifard (UniBas) will present their research. The seminar will be chaired by Sara Fiore.

The seventh MARVEL Review and Retreat will take place on September 10-11, 2020 — in videoconferencing mode. The event will gather all MARVEL members, group leaders as well as postdocs and students. In order to keep it interesting for everyone, the usual general project presentations delivered by the project leaders will be replaced by sessions of 25 minutes per project which will include 3 short presentations per project given by junior scientists. The presentations, selected by the project leader, will cover 3 important results/breakthroughs of each project. The rest of the time will be devoted to Q&A and discussion.

We are therefore pleased to propose the 35th MARVEL Junior Seminar: Kristjan Eimre (Empa) and Anders  Christensen (UniBas) will present their research. The seminar will be chaired by Max Veit.

There are still a few open slots for Master students, PhD students and (early stage) Postdocs to participate in the International Summer School "MATERIALS 4.0: Materials Genome Engineering" organized by TU Dresden this August 17–21, as an online event.

The MARVEL Junior Seminar series will not be taking any summer break, and we are continuing in videoconferencing mode. We are therefore pleased to propose the 34th MARVEL Junior Seminar: Michele Invernizzi (ETHZ/USI) and Giuliana Materzanini (EPFL) will present their research. The seminar will be chaired by Kristians Cernevics.

We are delighted to announce that the introductory tutorial to AiiDA — originally planned to take place in Vilnius — will be maintained and moved to a virtual format, taking place on July 7–10, 2020.

The seminar will be chaired by Giuliana Materzanini.

CECAM organizes a new series of webinars exploring the relevance of HPC as an enabler of leading-edge simulation and modeling. Entitled "The importance of being H.P.C. Earnest",  the series will focus on the science made possible by combining state-of-the-art methods with optimal exploitation of supercomputing resources.
