Welcome to the 29th MARVEL Junior Seminar on Friday December 6, 2019, 12:15 pm, EPFL, room MED 0 1418. Kristians Cernevics (C3MP, EPFL) and Olga Syzgantseva (LSMO, EPFL) will present their research. The seminar will be chaired by Markus Stricker.

The 19th NCCR MARVEL Distinguished Lecture – also an EPFL campus lecture – will be given by Prof. Giulia Galli, University of Chicago, with whom we will be "Marveling at materials through in-silico lenses".

Welcome to the 28th MARVEL Junior Seminar on Friday November 8, 2019, 12:15 pm, EPFL, room MED 0 1418. Markus Stricker (LAMMM, EPFL) and Stefano Falletta (CSEA, EPFL) will present their research. The seminar will be chaired by Giuliana Materzanini.

MARVEL will be present at the thematic day organized by EPFL at the Lycée Cantonal of Porrentruy on October 30, 2019. Entitled "Digital in our daily lives, today and tomorrow" this day on the theme of digital education is offered by the EPFL Education Promotion Service to the students and teachers of this high school.

Nicola Spaldin, ETH Zurich professor, NCCR MARVEL project leader and recent winner of the 2019 Marcel Benoist prize—the "Swiss Nobel Prize"—for her groundbreaking research on multiferroics will give a seminar on  "Hidden, Entangled and Resonating Orders" in Room CE15 at EPFL on Friday, 18 October.  

Welcome to the 27th MARVEL Junior Seminar on Friday October 11, 2019, 12:15 pm, EPFL, room MED 0 1418. Maria Fumanal (LSMO/LCMD, EPFL and IBM) and Thibault Sohier (THEOS, EPFL) will present their research. The seminar will be chaired by Stefano Falletta.

NCCR MARVEL and CCMX, the Competence Centre for Materials Science and Technology, are co-organizing their third Materials Science Day where both experimental and modeling approaches will be addressed. The morning will be dedicated to MARVEL projects related to Materials for Energy, including modeling and first experimental validation. During the afternoon, we will present progress with ongoing CCMX Materials Challenges. Participants from industry and academia are welcome to discover new projects, make new contacts and initiate collaborations.

To celebrate EPFL's 50th anniversary, there will be a special open house over the weekend of 14–15 September 2019. This family-friendly event will be free of charge and open to anyone with an interest in science – from children on up! MARVEL will be part of the adventure.

The sixth MARVEL Review and Retreat will take place on September 5-6, 2019. The event will gather all MARVEL members, group leaders as well as postdocs and students. On Thursday, all projects will be presented for evaluation by the MARVEL Scientific Advisory Board, with a poster session being held during lunch and in the evening. On Friday, the morning will be devoted to the presentation of the Open Science Platform and the HPC platform.

On Jul 25, MARVEL and CECAM are hosting the second lecture in the series "Classics in molecular and materials modeling" at EPFL.

In this THEOS-MARVEL seminar, Prof. Jennifer L. M. Rupp (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA) will address "lithionics" to store energy and compute data neuromorphically.

On July 8-10, 2019, the Summer School on Advanced Electronic Structure Methods in Condensed Matter Physics will take place at EPFL.
