MARVEL PIs Michele Ceriotti, involved in Design and Discovery Projects 1 and 2 and Oleg Yazyev, involved in Design and Discovery Project 6, have been named associate professors by the ETH Board.

Carey Sargent, EPFL, NCCR MARVEL

The original announcement from the ETH Board can be found here

Ceriotti, currently Tenure Track Assistant Professor at EPFL has been named Associate Professor of Materials Science in the School of Engineering. He is regarded as a world leader in the field of enhanced simulations for computational materials research. He has initiated an unsupervised machine learning paradigm that combines accurate simulation of electronic structures with long time and large scale models, allowing the description of disordered or out-of-equilibrium systems.  An article on his recent work on using atomistic modelling to probe the behavior of matter at the center of Jupiter can be found here

Yazyev, currently Tenure Track Assistant Professor at EPFL, has been named Associate Professor of Theoretical Physics in the School of Basic Sciences. Yazyev is one of the world’s leading researchers in condensed matter physics and is particularly interested in the simulation of energy and defects in graphene, as well as in the discovery of new 2D materials. An article on his recent work on twisted double bilayer graphene can be found here
