The emergence of big-data, high-speed computing and advanced analytical techniques has opened up unprecedented opportunities for materials research. Data-centric science for materials research is likely to grow significantly in the future. The September issue of MRS Bulletin focuses on the development and utilization of databases of electronic structure calculations and their impact on addressing various problems in materials science.
