Exclusive female lunch with Mary Ann Mansigh Karlsen

An exclusive lunch with Mary Ann Mansigh Karlsen, a truly outstanding representative of the first generation of coders, is organized for the female researchers on Tuesday 14 November at 12:15. 

Assigned to work on the UNIVAC (UNIVersal Automatic Computer) Mary Ann Mansigh Karlsen spent thousands of hours helping physician Berni Alder turn his molecular dynamics into computer code to run on LLNL supercomputers.

Have you read “Rise of the Rocket Girls” by Nathalia Holt? Have you seen the “Hidden Figures” movie by Theodore Melfi?  Are you interested to meet a truly outstanding representative of the first generation of coders?

Then join us on Tuesday November 14th at 12:15 in room PAC88 during an exclusive female lunch event organized by CECAM, NCCR MARVEL and the EPFL Equal Opportunities Office where Mary Ann Mansigh Karlsen, computer pioneer, will tell you more of her career in breaking through gender barriers and supporting the physics research done at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL).

The event will consist of a presentation in English, between 12:15 and 13:00, followed by informal discussions where you will be able to ask any kind of questions. Sandwiches, coffee and cakes will be offered at the event.
