Dear MARVEL'ers,
we are happy to announce the ICTP-MARVEL College: "Materials simulation in the age of AI", which will be held at ICTP (Trieste, Italy) from 1 to 12 June 2026.
The application deadline is 22 February 2026 for applicants requiring VISA and 27 March 2026 for all other applicants. Applications can be submitted on the event page.
This college is dedicated not only to the MARVEL community, but also to junior researchers from all over the world, bringing together graduate students and early-career scientists to learn and explore the state-of-the-art in computational materials science in the era of AI, and to forge the next generation of researchers in the field.
The two-week programme includes lectures and hands-on sessions on electronic-structure and atomistic simulations to understand, predict, and design material properties. It includes keynote talks and lectures by distinguished scientists (see poster below) and covers first-principles methods, molecular dynamics simulations, and machine-learning approaches. The programme will also feature two poster sessions, one in each week, where participants can present and discuss their work, and open-mic sessions to brainstorm together.
For non-MARVEL applicants, 80 full fellowships (travel, accommodation, and meals) and 40 partial fellowships (accommodation and meals) are available — this is very unusual, so please also advertise it broadly.
If you have any question, please contact us at info@nccr-marvel.ch.
We look forward to seeing you in Trieste!
With best wishes,
Nicola Marzari, on behalf of all the organisers
