MARVEL gathers 25 research laboratories from 11 Swiss institutions and opens the door to accelerated materials design and discovery. From inception, MARVEL includes the laboratories of IBM Rüschlikon as a partner, and Robert Bosch on the Scientific Advisory Board. We are now willing to develop broad industrial partnerships on a medium- to long-term perspective, focused on materials development with specific properties.
The evolution of mechanical properties of crystals with temperaure, the selection of new compositions of alloys, the prediction of optical or electrical properties of a novel materials, the identification of the best spatial configuration of a chemical compound, those are questions that can be solved thanks to theoretical models, so that you can evaluate a family of materials before investing in full-scale tests.
MARVEL’s research program includes a whole range of activities in application fields such as energy harvesting and storage, CO2 capture, information & communication, small molecular compounds for pharmaceuticals or chemistry, etc.
MARVEL is the central entry point giving you access to :
- leading laboratories in new materials design and discovery,
- informatic infrastructure for high speed calculation allowing to answer complex technical issues,
- experimental facilities at Empa and PSI, among others, to validate the results of modeling,
- public funding for collaborative research : CTI projects at Swiss level, Eurêka/Eurostars collaborations at European levels, direct mandates or student interships.
