Corina Keller, a student in Jürg Hutter's group at the University of Zurich, is awarded the IBM Research Forschungspreis for her MSc Thesis entitled “Simulation of Dynamic Atomic Force Microscopy Images". She will receive the prize from the president of the University next week during the Dies Academicus.

In her master thesis, which she carried out in the research group of Prof. Jürg Hutter and PD Marcella Iannuzzi, she presents the development, implementation and application of methods for the calculation of accurate AFM images at the density functional level of theory. The methods developed allow to reproduce the relevant details of high resolution images by explicit description  of the electronic structure of both, tip and sample. Her method is now being used by materials research groups outside her laboratory.
