  • MARVEL Junior Seminar — September 2020

    The MARVEL Junior Seminar series is continuing in videoconferencing mode (and we'll hopefully be back soon with pizza and cakes!). We are therefore pleased to propose the 36th MARVEL Junior Seminar: Seyed Mohamad Moosavi (EPFL) and Behnam Parsaeifard (UniBas) will present their research. The seminar will be chaired by Sara Fiore.

  • MARVEL Review and Retreat 2020

    The seventh MARVEL Review and Retreat will take place on September 10-11, 2020 — in videoconferencing mode. The event will gather all MARVEL members, group leaders as well as postdocs and students. In order to keep it interesting for everyone, the usual general project presentations delivered by the project leaders will be replaced by sessions of 25 minutes per project which will include 3 short presentations per project given by junior scientists. The presentations, selected by the project leader, will cover 3 important results/breakthroughs of each project. The rest of the time will be devoted to Q&A and discussion.

  • AiiDA introductory tutorial - Virtual edition

Earnest",  the series will focus on the science made possible by combining state-of-the-art methods with optimal exploitation of supercomputing resources.

    While we sadly cannot host MARVEL Junior Seminars in person for the time being, nor interact in the auditorium and around pizza and cakes (but we’ll hopefully be back soon!), we would like to continue the MARVEL Junior Seminar series in videoconferencing mode for the time being.We are therefore pleased to announce the 32nd MARVEL Junior Seminar: Sophie Beck (Materials Theory Laboratory, ETHZ) and Ravi Yadav (C3MP, EPFL) will present their research. The seminar will be chaired by Stefano Falletta.

  • MARVEL site visit 2020

    Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the MARVEL Site Visit will take place in a much reduced format. The Review Panel — international board of evaluation of the NCCR MARVEL — will conduct its evaluation based on the projects' written scientific report and on presentation videos of the main projects. 

  • Fireside chats for lockdown times: a gentle introduction to density-functional theory

    Density-functional theory has become a very popular and very powerful approach to the calculation from first-principles of the properties of molecules and materials. In these three talks, Nicola Marzari will provide a gentle introduction to the fundamentals of density-functional theory, to the calculations that can be done with modern, open-source codes such as Quantum ESPRESSO, and to its capabilities and limits.
